A published notebook by Rafat Fields — systems designer, builder, and architect.

At the Helm is a working notebook.
A real-time record of what it looks like to design technology solutions in public — the decisions, the pivots, the equations being worked out in plain sight.
Each entry is a dispatch from the work: a theme, a problem, a process, a reflection. Built in Notion. Documented as it happens.
The inspiration behind this notebook lives at the intersection of the Underground Railroad, the Space Race, and Star Trek — three stories about constrained environments, hidden labor, and the creation of pathways that did not exist until someone decided to build them.
This is my method for making the work visible.
So that someone with a mind more brilliant than mine can go even further.
Each entry is a Mission Log — a single build, decision, or design challenge documented as it happened. Inside every log: a voice note, process nodes that walk through the reasoning step by step, and illustrations that make the architecture visible.
New entries publish as the work unfolds. Start anywhere. Follow the thread.
